Stettin, Germany Passenger Records Information

A small number of emigrants left for the USA from the port of Stettin (today called Szczecin in Poland). The surviving passenger departure lists are presently only available in the Vorpommersches Landesarchiv in Greifswald, Germany. They are available for the years 1871, 1876-1891 & 1896-1898 (other years are lost). You may write to the archive for information about researching these lists at this address:

Landesarchiv Greifswald
Martin-Andersen-Nexö-Platz 1
D-17489 Greifswald
Germany

It is recommended that you write in German and include an IRC (International Reply Coupon).

You might also contact researcher Friedrich R. Wollmershäuser, who has an index to these lists. Before contacting him it is helpful to know whether your ancestor's ship departed from Stettin - this can usually be determined from the US passenger arrrival record. Herr Wollmershäuser charges a fee for researching these records. For details see his website at Friedrich Wollmershäuser's Genealogical Research.
